How can I help my dog adjust to my new boyfriend?

My dog, Padfoot, and I are very close. He sleeps in my bed every night, and recently with the addition of a new boyfriend in my life, he doesn't get to spend as much time with me. He's reverted back to not being housetrained, to get my attention, and is acting much differently. I've tried to help him adjust as much as I can, but I also want to spend time with my boyfriend with him not trying to get in the middle of us. Suggestions? How can I help my dog adjust to my new boyfriend? It's obvious how much your dog loves you - consider yourself a very lucky person!! To keep both in your life (and stay sane at the same time), spend some %26quot;quality%26quot; time with Padfoot every day. Just the two of you. Do what he likes to do, for example a walk at his favourite place, a drive, a walk to the local pet food store to buy his some of his favourite treats (they usually let dogs in on leash which is a huge treat in itself!). Make sure Padfoot knows that he is going to get one on one time with you and this isn't going to stop. Next, slowly introduce your new boyfriend. Have your boyfriend come over, and you leave for a 20 minute or so walk - have your boyfriend sit with Padfoot, give him a treat, that sort of thing. When this seems to start going well, introduce a walk with yourself, your boyfriend and Padfoot, but make sure you continue the walks you take that consist of just the two of you). That way Padfoot gets to see that he can be part of this new arrangement occasionally, and also realize that what you and he had isn't over. Good luck - it will work out, you just need to give it some time. How can I help my dog adjust to my new boyfriend?Have your boyfriend get closer to Padfoot. Then he won't feel so left out. You can easily overcome this by re-establishing a routine for your dog (even if it is different from what he was previously used to). While you do this, you should consider either crating your dog, or confining him to a room in your house to help with the housebreaking issues. This will also add to the structure in his life. Make sure also that with some of your attention to your boyfriend, your dog is still getting plenty of exercise! Good luck! How can I help my dog adjust to my new boyfriend?Padfoot is your dog - not your boy friend's. It will take time before your dog adjusts to this newest change, therefore, that is why he is reverting back to old habits. He has always had your full attention and now he doesn't. Animals can always sense who likes them and who doesn't - maybe he senses something in your new boy friend that he just doesn't like. Does your new boy friend like the dog? If so, then he needs to also spend time with the dog to make him feel he is not being ignored. Both of you need to spend more time with the dog to make him feel he still has a place in your life and then he'll stop his bad habits. How can I help my dog adjust to my new boyfriend?I am going to assume that your dog was overly spoiled before the bf came along.
