How can I help my beagle adjust to living in an apartment?

My beagle is about 2 years old, and has lived in a decent sized house with a good sized yard and a run. I am moving to the city soon and want to make it as easy a transition as possible for him and my neighbors.

Other than taking him on long walks, how can I help my country dog adjust? How can I help my beagle adjust to living in an apartment? You'll have one very unhappy-howly beagle, even with long walks if it has to live in apartment! here's a good answer on beagles NOT in apartments!

http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/indHow can I help my beagle adjust to living in an apartment?I think your beagle will be just fine. I have a beagle and 2 german shepherds and we moved from a more confining area to a bigger area.

It will take some time for him to get adjusted to his new area and different sounds. Introduce him to neighbors, he'll know who he likes and doesn't like.

If there isn't a dog park where he can be off his leash you can play ball with him in your home or buy a long lead to throw a ball certain distance and him bring it back. How can I help my beagle adjust to living in an apartment?Hi, first i would maybe limit his boundaries slowly before you move, so he can get used to closed spaces. And take note of how he acts. If he goes crazy and really doesn't like it, maybe open one more room for him and when he feels more safe then try again. Also before you move, try to take him to the apartent to have him explore and see the space a few times. This may help him adjust to the changes. How can I help my beagle adjust to living in an apartment?Dogs are happy with us, doesn't matter where they live. Give him plenty of exercise. Find a local park, hopefully you have one in walking distance. If not, see where your closest park is and visit it on weekends, see how far you are from hiking trails, this way he gets mentally and physically stimulated. Also, find a small group of friendly stable dogs that he can socialize with.

Give him some time to adjust, his housebreaking may fall apart a bit. Keep his walks on a schedule and the easiest way to keep a potty schedule is by feeding your dog on a schedule and not free feeding.

Also find a good reliable dog walker or %26quot;doggie daycare%26quot;, you never know when you may need them and build a relationship with them.

I would make a point of getting him out and exercised at least 2x's a day. You want him nice and tired before you leave for work.

It takes committment, especially when living with a hunting breed in an apartment, but it can be done successfully.

How can I help my beagle adjust to living in an apartment?I think that as long as you pay attention to him and he knows you are still there for him and you get him regular exercise, he'll be fine. Dogs don't want for much. They just need the basics and the biggest basic is having an owner that cares and treats them well. Yes it will be a transition for him and you but the both of you will be ok.
