How can i help my cats adjust to our moving to a new home?

I have 4 cats. My hubby and i are all very close. The best way i can put it is they let us live with them, lol, but really not kidding. We step over them, nearly break our neck, you got the picture. The new home is small and cozy in a quiet neighborhood. Help, how do i get them to adjust without them freaking out. One of the girls lives on my kitchen table, shes so afraid of everything. Anything you guys can think of would be greatly appreciated. How can i help my cats adjust to our moving to a new home?Best thing to do is to let them adjust to one room first...perhaps the bedroom? Just make sure they have everything they need--food, water, litterbox, etc. This will act as their safe spot in the meantime while they adjust to their new surroundings. Once they have adjusted, and this shouldn't take too long (maybe 1-3 nights depending on the cats personality), let them roam the rest of the house. Since cats are very curious, they'll enjoy exploring their new territory. When you let them out to explore, try to be aware of all the possible hiding places your cat might discover. It's just a precaution and always good to know. :)

I have moved three times with our older cat and once with our younger cat and this method has always worked very well for me.How can i help my cats adjust to our moving to a new home?Usually with animals having all your possesions around. Like the previous furniture and their toys. So they know there scent is on it. My two cats always have adjusted well to all our new places. Just let them sniff around and do there thing, they will soon understand this is the new home when they see you and all the possesions around. Make them comfortable and show them blankets or their cats bed that they like to sleep on, reward them with treats! How can i help my cats adjust to our moving to a new home?I agree with Ren's strategy: give them just one room to deal with at first. Then, once it's %26quot;familiar territory%26quot; they'll have a %26quot;safe%26quot; place to retreat to when dealing with the overwhelm of the rest of the house. Feliway is great, you can get it at http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/pr It mimics cats' %26quot;friendly%26quot; hormones, the kind they mark you with by rubbing their cheeks on you. Helped calm the household when I introduced a new cat. Bach's Rescue Remedy flower essence is also calming. How can i help my cats adjust to our moving to a new home? There's no way to completely avoid stress, but once you do get them into the new house give them plenty of space and just let them hide for a few days- it's going to take some getting used to.

You could also try Feliway or similar products, which I've never used myself but have heard good things about- it releases a scent that's supposed to mimic the cat's own scents, thus making the cats feel more like they're in their own territory. It might be something to look into.

Good luck!
