How do I properly adjust my bike's suspension for passangers?

I'm new to bikes, and I don't have an owners manual for my '96 yamaha yzf600r. I weigh 210lbs, and i was wondering if i had a 100 some odd pound passanger if I needed to adjust the suspension and if so, how much I would need to do this? Stiffen the rear suspension a little, have the passenger sit on bike with you. Adjust the shock until sag is same as with you alone. This is a simple and basic way. This is also given the the bike is properly adjusted for only you to bgin with. It should get it close.
