How should one adjust watering of Italian Cypress trees from summer to winter and back again?

How should one adjust watering of Italian Cypress trees from summer to winter and back again?

The reason I am asking is due to my noticing some of these trees (in the ground for 2 1/2 years) are now prone to leaning from the effect of strong winds--and needing to be tied.

My question is: should the summer watering be less frequent, but deeper (longer)? Do these conifers extend roots downward in the summer? I notice there is little to no top growth in summer. These trees are located in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona. How should one adjust watering of Italian Cypress trees from summer to winter and back again?.
