How do you adjust a ballcock on a commode so that it stops running?

Our commode only runs about once per hour. Surely there has to be a simple way to adjust the ballcock so that the commode is not calling for so much water.How do you adjust a ballcock on a commode so that it stops running?Check two things.

Be sure the flapper which seals the drain at the bottom, is not leaking. These become warped over time. This may allow water to seep, triggering the water supply.



If this isn't the problem, the ball cock may not be cutting off the supply.

At times I've taken the rod holding the ball and very carefully bent it downwards just a bit, use both hands. Try cleaning it really well and check to be sure it isn*t dented or damaged somehow that could stop it from sealing properly. I just fixed our yesterday by doing that and then putting petroleum jelly all around the rim so that it seats really tight.
