How to adjust to Moving so far away from everything?

I recently just got married and my Husband is in the Army. I'm 20 and I've never been away from home before and now he's being stationed at Ft.Knox, KY and I'm very excited but also very scared. I'm just wondering how am I going to adjust with out my family and friends and basically just starting over and trying to make new friends. Any suggestions? How to adjust to Moving so far away from everything?I understand how you feel, I was in the same boat with the exeption of myself being in the Air Force and were from Atlanta and moved to New Mexico. Man that was a culture shock. The city I am in has a population of about 30,000 people. What I did was researched the area I was going to to try to find out if they had any of the things I liked to do. I then went and found out that most if not all bases have a Family Support Center, from there you can find out support groups and play dates with kids if you have any, or volunteer. If all else fails have your husband introduce you to some of his coworkers that are married and network that way. Im not the normal person to just go out and meet friends but since I have been here, I have made many friends and associate. Another way to make it feel easier is have your family come and visit every so often and call them as often as possible. It makes you feel so much better. How to adjust to Moving so far away from everything?Remember you can always keep in touch with friends and family by phone, internet, and mail.

When he gets settle in you can join the family readiness group. You will meet other spouses. You can also look for clubs and activities on and off post.

You will learn to adjust. Just take it one day at a time. How to adjust to Moving so far away from everything? The same way millions and millions of people who go to college and then ebter the work force do, every year.

You just make new friends.

And the best way to do that, is get out of the house.

Take college class's, volunteer, join clubs or groups.
