How do you adjust a power steering belt on an escort gt?

I have a 94 escort gt with the 1.8L engine. Last week I needed a alternator belt so I figured I would replace the power steering belt right away also. I figured it worked the same way, loosen the adjusting bolt, pivot the power steering pump and pop the belt off. I loosened every bolt I could find yet it would not pivot, so I looked a little closer and it appears to have a stud with a nut that seems to pin the thing in place. It does pivot, but only the amount of clearance between the stud and the hole. What I wound up doing was just removing the pump and replacing the belt that way. But now the belt will slip if you turn the wheel all the way to either side. I assume it needs to be a little tighter but I don't see how to adjust it, and yes the belt is exactly the same as what I took off. The car does have ac but I didn't see any adjustment on there. ThanksHow do you adjust a power steering belt on an escort gt?There's an adjusting bolt and lock on the top or bottom that has to be turned in/out to slack up or tighten the belt. You loosen the pivot bolt, and then loosen the lock nut on the adjuster, then turn the adjuster to move the pump. then when you have the right tension you need to lock the bolt again.

It's a Mazda motor....
